We had a full house at our Griffins End of Season Banquet celebrating the great success we had on and off the field. Thank you to the Winnetka Community House for hosting us and Lori Racine for all her hard work putting this great event on. Great friends, food, drink, awards, videos and conversation. Can't wait to see what next season brings. Go Griffs!
Coach Jim Roth presented the annual namesake Varsity Award to 8th grader Grant Racine. Grant is a two year varsity starter who played many positions including center and linebacker. The award is presented to an 8th grade player who demonstrates the teachings of coach Roth on and off the field. We want to congratulate Grant and wish him luck at Loyola Academy next year. We also want to thank all of our 8th graders and families and wish them the best of luck,
This year's "Mark Rice" Volunteer Award was presented to coach Eduardo Monk. After losing our Bantam head coach early in the season coach Monk stepped up and took over . Coach Monk is an active Military Officer and had knee surgery during the season making this commitment a challenging one for him. The award was presented by Mark Rice who started North Shore Football over 12 years ago. In his name we award this honor in appreciation to one of our many volunteers who demonstrates the dedication to our program like Mark did for many years.
Our 10-1 Varsity Griffins team won their second consecutive TCYFL championship avenging an earlier loss to the undefeated and #1 seeded Cary Trojans. After a scoreless first half the Griffins struck first and held on for a 20-14 victory. Congratulations to the boys and coach Roth and his staff.
Coach Huyler and his Middleweight team earned a return visit to the TCYFL Championship game taking on Plainfield. Our Griffins became the programs first Middleweight champions with a 46-33 victory. Rohan Patel lead the team with 7 touchdowns and over 300 yards rushing. Congratulations on a terrific season.
The #1 seeded North Shore Griffins Featherweight team fell short in the TCYFL Championship Game to Oak Park in a hard fought battle 19-13. The Griffins were driving to score the go ahead touchdown late only to turnover the ball over on the 10. We are so very proud of our 8-3 team and their coaching staff.
Congratulations to our 7th and 8th grade Varsity team for their 2017 TCYFL Division Championship. We are very proud of our boys and their hard work this season. Thank you coach Roth, Mathes, Choi and Petrucci for your dedication to our program and young athletes.
Congratulations to our 4th and 5th grade Featherweight team for their TCYFL Division Championship. Thank you to coach Richardson, Rice, Saunders and Knight for their great leadership.
YOUTH FOOTBALL HAS NEVER BEEN SAFER
The game of football today isn't your father's game. The game is taught and played very differently than even 5 years ago. Injuries are down and we continue to evolve the teachings and play every year.
The Griffins participates in The Chicagoland Youth Football League (TCYFL), the largest independent youth football organization in the country with over 50 participating Chicagoland communities. Creating better competition and fair play opportunities for all.
STARTING THEM EARLY
NSYF offer tackle football for boys and girls ages 6 thru 14. We are one of the only youth organization in the North Shore area to offer tackle football for ages 6-9 year olds. Teaching the correct tackling and blocking techniques at a younger age makes for a Safer and Better game.
Our number one priority is the health and safety of our young athletes, this is why TCYFL and NSYF requires that all coaches be certified in the latest USA Football Heads Up Blocking and Tackling techniques. As well all coaches participate in advanced concussion training and complete Positive Coaching certification (PCA). We continue to limit contact during the practice week utilizing new training tools such as the Shadowman Tackling System and Tackling Wheel.
PLAYING MORE FOOTBALL
The NSYF football season runs longer than other local programs. Practice begins in late July with the introduction of Heads Up Football. Our season ends in mid November with a full playoff schedule, ending with TCYFL Championship Weekend.
Unlike many local leagues in the North Shore area who have a single game playoff day, NSYF participates in a full playoff schedule which leads to a Live-Streamed TCYFL Championship Game at all different age levels.
The Chicagoland Youth Football League (TCYFL) is the largest independent youth tackle football league in the United States, fielding thousands of players on hundreds of teams from over 50 Member Communities throughout Chicagoland and SE Wisconsin.

Rohan Patel - 7th Grade, Wilmette
As a 2017 TCYFL Middleweight Champ, Rohan helped lead his Griffin’s team to a 46-33 victory over Plainfield. Patel had a record breaking game with 7 touchdowns on 407 rushing yards and an interception late in the game to secure the win. We look forward to even bigger things from Rohan next year.
